Homecoming 2010 Just One Year Off

Filed under: Newspaper Articles — Randy @ 2:14 pm
  1. This is the article from the June 17th Mountaineer.  A side note, the skyline of our little hometown changed again last week. The “old” Centennial Grain Elevator was literally tipped over and demolished last week. It is the photo inside the B on our logo. Good thing we got the photo when we did.
Just one year until people from every corner of the country are “Going Home…to the place where I belong.” for Big Sandy’s Homecoming 2010!  June 18,19,20 promises to be a fun, entertaining weekend for all ages.
Hopefully you have received your homecoming postcard by now. If not, it will be in the mail as soon as we can get you correct address. Big Sandy’s own Shari Jenkins Schmit (’76) so generously donated her time and talent to design the homecoming logo and beautiful postcards. Pictures of the area landmarks were taken by photographers Ruth Pegar (’41),  Doug Braun (’77) and Tracy Schuster (’87). The printing of the cards turned out just gorgeous and was done by the Mountaineer…thanks Jim and Linda for your hard work!
  2.     If you haven’t gotten your postcard, go to bigsandyhomecoming.com and give us your current address. Thanks to our “computer man”, Grant Beaudette (’00), we are able to have our own website. Between going to school and working  he was able to get our site designed and running. You will want to check it out for current information about homecoming plans, registration will soon be available, and contact information for BSHS alumni.  Also a big thanks to former teacher Bob Nelson for all the work he did getting our mailing list printed on labels from an out of date computer program.
  3.     The homecoming/memorial book is being headed by Corinna Ophus Bahnmiller (’87). The huge project is in good hands as Corinna was a member of homecoming 2005’s committee! Anyone wanting to buy a memorial for a loved one or classmate is urged to contact Corinna or go to our website for information. Corinna would like pictures of the old schools, both rural and town.  Also, of the dormitories and community hall/bus barn. If you know where an old school building is now, maybe it’s your shop or chicken coop, snap a picture and get it to us!
  4.     We will keep you informed on homecoming happenings through periodic Mountaineer articles. Please feel free to call any of us on the committee with questions, updated addresses or comments. We would love to have any pictures of your high school days, they can be emailed to us or we can make copies and get the originals right back to you!

  1. Hello BSHS!

I’m not sure if this is the right area to be posting but here goes.!

Recently I became reacquainted with Rick Tyler and he let me know of the homecoming and I wanted very much to be invited.

We moved from Big Sandy just before my Senior year there and I graduated from Great Falls High School in 1973.

I’ve never been to a reunion simply because I never knew anyone in the GFHS graduating Class.

Most of the people I knew were Juniors or Sophomores.

So needless to say I am very excited at the prospect of seeing the people I knew at your Reunion.

As I have grown older I have come to appreciate more deeply “Roots” of where one has felt most at home which for me was Big Sandy and BSHS and I hope to re-connect with Folks.

Here’s some back info for you.

Currently I am an Employee with The Boeing Company, Triple 7 Division in the supply chain.
We manage all incoming shipments of airplane parts and assemblies for the 777 aircraft.

My former positions at Boeing were as a fabricator, installer and structural mechanic for the 737, 747 programs.

I am also a member of The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary specializing in recreational vessel safety checks and also work in Aids to Navigation Verfier. Currently I am training for Instructor Qualification.

Our Flotilla is located at the Coast Guard Base, Sector Seattle, Pier 36.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

  2. Scott:

Since I see no other responses in this part of Big Sandy Homecoming’s page, I was not certain if you received any response from anyone regarding the Homecoming festivities in June 2010. As you may know by now, there really is no invitation needed to come visit and enjoy all the festivities. If you want to be able to enjoy the meals and some of the other festivities that require registration, you would need to contact the homecoming committee which I believe you can do through this website.

If you have challenges, feel free to contact me and I would be happy to help in any way that I can. You can email me at jdbent@itstriangle.com.
